Hello everyone! I've made this blog in an attempt to allow you all to follow me through the process of applying to do mission work and all that comes with this experience. So far things are working out very well...better than expected. When I had originally applied to Radical Journey, I did it thinking I wouldn't be able to participate until after the Fall 2011 semester, meaning I wouldn't be able to go until August 2012. I had resigned myself to waiting a year and a half before mission work could become a possibility. Then something unexpected happened.
I was told that I had everything I needed to graduate and I was sent to fill out a graduation application. The woman in the records office then proceeded to tell me that not only would I not be able to graduate, but that it was worse than I thought. Somehow the computer program keeping track of my credits had put my classes in the wrong categories. After they were straightened out, I suddenly had more requirements needed than I had originally known about. I was later told this happens to maybe 1 in every 5000 students. All I could think was lucky me. Deciding this wasn't fair, I went to talk to everyone I thought could help me. My adviser turned out to be indispensable. Not only did he fight for me, but he got all but 1 credit of my requirements waived. So while working on applications and raising money this summer, I am also working on my very last credit. It is amazing how everything has worked out! God is awesome!
So, now that I have graduation stuff under control I can work on everything else that needs to be done. I recently had an interview with a member of the Radical Journey team so she could get to know me a little better and pass on what she had learned to a committee that decides if you should go, where you should go, and who you will go with. She asked some hard questions that really made me think, but it went well. She was really nice and answered any questions I had as well.
I have another interview on Thursday and will hopefully be learning where I am being sent. I will also be using this next week to try and get all my ducks in a row because the week after is bible school which I'm helping out with. So I am planning on working out some financial stuff with Ron Roth, applying for my passport, meeting with Brenda Short (my support group leader) about fundraiser ideas, and putting together the rest of my support group. It will be a busy, but hopefully productive, week. I am really looking forward to getting everything started.
Keep checking back to see what I've been up to lately and how things are working out.
:)
